　　Compared with historical people and events in the past, I think I can learn much more from those that exist currently. The main reason is that most lessons that we can learn from historical people and events are already fixed and can be found on textbooks- there is nothing new to be learned. In contrast, I can learn a lot from current events as I can see how some important developments are changing our world. For example, we can learn how online shopping is changing people’s life style and how to take advantage of such a tendency. As to contemporary figures, their public statements or speeches often give me a lot of insights and new perspectives.

　　2.What kind of gift would you like to send to one of your friends: a gift for practical use or gift just for fun? (12/12/14 NA)

　　Choosing gifts for friends can be very difficult, but I think it is possible to send a gift that is both useful and interesting. If my budget allows, I would like to give my friend a mini iPads as a perfect gift for his or her birthday because it is such an elegant and fashionable item. As a personal electronic device, mini iPad is truly useful as we can review documents, is truly useful as we can review documents, store pictures and read novels on it. For instance, if you walk into a classroom, you can see a lot of students might use mini iPad to take notes and search related information for the class. 　　As far as I am concerned, I think it’s better for students to choose their major as long as they go to the university. The reasons can be concluded as two points.

　　Firstly, the earlier for the students to choose what they like and what they are going to study, the better for them to make a career preparation. Since major knowledge involves lots of stuff to learn, which is not only one or 2years enough to be finished absorbing if it happens from the second or third year in the university. Second of all, after completing academic major study, students still need 1-year internship to fulfill their school life, which means if they wait until the second or third year to choose major, it would be definitely late and bad for the career development, esp. in the fast-pace technology era.

　　4.Some people consider going to the gym a priority in their life, while others go to the gym only when they have time. Which do you think is better and why?(13/02/15 NA)

　　Since everyone seems to be busy with either school or work every day, it sounds less likely to make gym a priority. To begin with, compared to work, time for gym is more optional. There’s a deadline for either homework or projects, but for gym, time is more flexible. Any time after school or wok when time is more sufficient works. Moreover, exercise can be realized in other forms, such as walking and standing, which are less time3-consuming. Gym is not our expertise and there’s no need to fix a specific time for gym. Using any time available for exercise is what many white-collars workers are doing, standing for half an hour after every dinner, walking home instead of bus after work, or standing on the metro, anything functioning as well a gym.

　　5.Some people make decisions on their own, while others tend to depend on others for advice. Which do you prefer and why?(14/01/11 NA)

　　Whenever I have to make a decision that is vital to my life, I prefer to listen to the advice from others instead of only by myself. There are two reasons for doing this.

　　Firstly, opinions from other people may give me a full understanding of what I am going to decide, so that I can make a wiser choice. For example, when I was deciding what I was going to study in the college, I only focused on my interest while my parents reminded me of the current employment situation and career plan after my graduation. This was really something I ignored but quite significant and practical. Furthermore, I am less stressed when making important decisions when others’ ideas are taken into consideration. Although I am still the one to be responsible for the consequence of decision, when all the ideas are carefully considered, the decision seems a safe one.

　　In a word, getting advice from others can help me a lot when I am making decisions.

　　6.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? The way people dress themselves reveals their personality.(10/11/14 CN)

　　Well, in many situations it is true that people use their clothes of different colors and styles to show their personality. Clearly, color says a lot about one’s personality. People who like bright colors are ge3nerally open-minded and carefree, while those who wear drab colors are serious and reserved. Besides, as to styles, T-shirts and old jeans reveal a casual attitude, and suits, ties and polished shoes reveal great care to details. Of course, the age is another factor that affects the dressing style, for example, a 30years old female won’t dress like a 20-year-old girl. Finally, a growing trend is that people are wearing special clothes such as leather pants full of holes to show their individuality.

　　7.Find a place to live near campus. Option1: a house to share with several other students; Options2: and apartment without sharing.

　　From my point of view, I prefer to live in a house which is shared with other students.

　　To begin with, sharing an apartment with other students is a good chance to practice my interpersonal skills, as living with many people would let me know how to deal with different personalities and improve my commination ability. Secondly, it’s also a good way for me to release my economic burden when I share the house with my roommates. As I am still a student, need to save my rental cost to buy whatever I like and need in my study and daily campus life.

　　So sharing a house with other students means a lot to me.

　　8.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is never too late for an old person to receive higher education and get a university degree. (09/11/14 CN)

　　Well, personally, I think it is a good idea for old people in every society to go to university, become interested in learning and pursue a degree. For some historical reasons, many old people never had a chance to receive higher education, but it does not mean they6 are not interested in learning or do not have the potentials. In addition, many senior citizens get bored and feel isolated after retirement, so going back to school is an excellent way out. For example, my mom does make lots of new acquaintance during the process of learning calligraphy in the university for the elderly, Also in their academic studies, they start to use high technologies such as the Internet, which narrows the gene3ration gap.

　　Yes, it is absolutely true that having a job that you like to do is of vital importance to your happiness in life.

　　Today’s people are spending a lot of time in their workplaces, and many of their social relationships are built around their work, so the quality of their jobs affects how happy they are. If people are enjoying what they are doing in their workplace on a daily basis, it gives them a great sense of satisfaction. On the other hand, doing something that you do not enjoy but just for the money is painful, even if you have a high salary, maybe it would have a bad impact on your work efficiency.

　　So doing a job which is related to your interest is of great importance.

　　10.Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A person needs talent to be an artist. Please use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. (12/02/24 CN)

　　Personally, I disagree with the statement that a person needs talent to be an artist.

　　On top of the first, not everyone in the world has talent to be an artist. In contemporary society many artists always work hard to make up for a lack of intelligence, Just as Tomas Edison’s saying Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. This saying can fully address the importance of hard work. What’s more, talent will be wasted without hard work, If a gifted person abuses his/her talent, he/she would not become an artist. Although talent is important for an artist to create wonderful works, persistent hand work is more vital to proceed the creation.

　　Therefore, I firmly believe that gift is not must to be an artist.
