1. Whichtechnology has made the greatest impact on people’s life in your country: airplane, computer or television? (11/20/13 CN)
While airplane and television are surely very important inventions, I believe computer is probably more helpful in people’s life.
For one thing, computer helps people so much in their studies since it allows people to write research papers and create PowerPoint presentations. You know, in the past, students had to rewrite their paper which costs them bunches of time. But now they only need to do some minor edit on the computer. For another, computer can be used as a convenient and efficient tool to communicate with others. People now have been accustomed to chat through online communication tools such as skype, QQ and so forth. Furthermore, computer can meet all our needs of entertainment, including music, movies and video games.
2. Describe the most unforgettable success in your life. Explain why this success is unforgettable to you. (09/11/14 CN)
As a high school student, I gave my first speech in front of my class, which was the most unforgettable experience in my life. I had always been nervous when I stood up to speak, so giving my first public speech presented a great challenge. Encouraged by my English teacher, I started to make good preparations for the presentation, such as doing research in the library, making small cards and creating a PPT file. Every day I would spend approximately 5 hours preparing and practicing the speech. Good preparation provides me with great support and confidence. By interacting with my audience, I conquered my nervousness and won big applause from my classmates and my teacher.
3. Describe a person in your family whose personality and behavior are quite different from others, using the specific examples to explain why.
Talking about a person who behaves very differently from others in my family, I would like to say my cousin, Jack, who is an only 13-year-old boy in the school.
Young as he is, he is really not like in his age, I mean, he is very brave and adventurous, and he likes attending some exciting outdoor activities like climbing the mountain and surfing in the ocean, etc. Even his parents told him to be more careful with all that kind of risky events, he seems like not taking it seriously but does it very well.
Besides, he is the only one probably in my family who dares to save drowning people in the water without thinking too much, still remember last summer he saved a young girl’s life in the bathing beach No.3.
Such a brave and good boy! Though he is too adventurous, we all love him.
4. What is the most effective way to resolve disagreements between friends? Explain why.
Personally, I think asking the third party to mediate between friends is the best way to resolve the disagreements. There are two reasons as follows.
In the first place, the third party is very objective to tell which side is right or wrong, which can help both parties realize the problem and make an agreement quickly. Because when people are in dispute, they will be too judgmental with their only opinions, and probably not think about the problem completely, with the help of the mediator, things would be easier and quicker to be solved.
Besides, when people have disagreement, it might lead to lots of consequences, like some unnecessary misunderstanding, even hatred. Even one side wants to alleviate the problem, afraid of losing face might prevent the apology, so the mediator plays a very important role in the disagreement.
In a word, finding a person to help is a good way of easing the disagreement.
5. Describe a serious problem that is facing your country. Explain why it is so serious.
I believe that unemployment rate among college graduates has become a serious problem in China. To begin with, while economics situation has not improved, many college graduates are unable to find suitable jobs. It challenges the education system and people ‘s value seriously. Secondly, the social status of university students is declining. People even begin to doubt the value of entering universities, which will affect the long term quality of our country. Finally, too many jobless young people pose serious risks to social stability. Recent years, there are more and more extreme cases committed by graduates, because they feel hopeless about the future after making more than 15years efforts.
1. Do you prefer to learn from people and events in the past or people and events than currently?(11/02/12CN)
Compared with historical people and events in the past, I think I can learn much more from those that exist currently. The main reason is that most lessons that we can learn from historical people and events are already fixed and can be found on textbooks- there is nothing new to be learned. In contrast, I can learn a lot from current events as I can see how some important developments are changing our world. For example, we can learn how online shopping is changing people’s life style and how to take advantage of such a tendency. As to contemporary figures, their public statements or speeches often give me a lot of insights and new perspectives.
2. Some universities expect students to choose their major when they enter university. Others let students wait until the second or third year. Which do your think is better and why?
As far as I am concerned, I think it’s better for students to choose their major as long as they go to the university. The reasons can be concluded as two points.
Firstly, the earlier for the students to choose what they like and what they are going to study, the better for them to make a career preparation. Since major knowledge involves lots of stuff to learn, which is not only one or 2years enough to be finished absorbing if it happens from the second or third year in the university. Second of all, after completing academic major study, students still need 1-year internship to fulfill their school life, which means if they wait until the second or third year to choose major, it would be definitely late and bad for the career development, esp. in the fast-pace technology era.
3. What kind of gift would you like to send to one of your friends: a gift for practical use or gift just for fun? (12/12/14 NA)
4. It is appropriate that students disagree with their instructor. (20/13/10/25NA)
5. A/D: It is important to live close to your family. (20/14/01/25NA)
【名词解释】advancing crediting：method that teacher help children to learn social appropriate behavior。
【名词解释】动物的利他主义：benefic other animals， but reduce the chance of survival.
例如：卖家具的的 slogan 是 last long，而不是什么具体的桌椅;2 是宣传特定产品的功能，例如 printer，公司宣传 printer 轻小易携带 with computer，slogan 是"printing as you go"
